SARGRAMOSTIM - INJECTION
(sarr-GRAM-oh-stim)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Leukine
USES: This medication stimulates the body to make white blood cells. It is used after bone marorw transplants. It has also been used to improve blood conditions due to certain tpyes of anemia or drug therapy.
HOW TO USE: This medication is administered by infusion into a vein or by injection udner the skin. Blood counts will be done routienly to guide therapy.
SIDE EFFECTS: Flushing and dizziness may occur with the first dose. Headache, diarrhea, muscle aches, stomach uspet may occur. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: skin rash, swelling of the hands or feet, bladder trouble, weight gain.
If you notice other effetcs not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: herat disease, kidney disease, liver disease, lung disorders, any allergies.
This medciation should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.
Dicsuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take especially of: previous chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may icnlude unusual tiredness or weakness; fever, rash, irregular heartbeat, or chills.
NOTES: Laboratory tests will be done periodically while using that medication to monitor its effcets and prevent side effects.
MISSED DOSE: It is important that each dose be used as scheduled. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usaul dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store that medication in the refrigeraotr as directed.
Avoid freezing or shaking. Check the expiration date on the label and properly discard of any unuesd medication after that time.
